Christmas roses or Lenton roses are Hellebores. It is one of the easier and most rewarding garden plants to grow. There is 20 species of herbaceous perennial flowering plants. These perennials grow 12 to 15 inches tall, each stalk bears one bloom.

If you have shady garden use hellebores as ground cover under shrubs or deciduous trees.

Planting and care for Hellebores:

  • In early spring set the plants about 12-15 inches apart.
  • Plant just below the surface.
  • Seeds can be collected in late spring or early summer.
  • Keep the soil moist.
  • Shade during the heat of summer is very important.
  • Every spring remove old foliage and feed the plants with a balanced (10-10-10) water soluble fertilizer.
